Fudge

From the 2013 batch made by my daughter Ella

When I was growing up, my Grandma ‘Nez used to host the family Christmas Eve and Christmas Day Dinner.  I wish I had a clear recollection of how long it would take her to make all of the treats and meals.  She made everything seem easy so I never even thought about how much effort she put into all of us having a good time until I was a mother myself.  It’s in recognition of the season, and in honor of my Grandma ‘Nez that I share this recipe with you.

Fudge by Inez Hagan Critchley

As Handwritten by My Mom Mary Stewart December 1971

  • 2 cups walnuts
  • 1 pt (or 7 oz.) Hipolite or 18 marshmallows
  • 2 1/2 tsp. vanilla
  • 3 packages of chocolate chips (18 oz.)
  • 1/2 lb. of oleo (butter works too)

Bring 4 1/2 cups of sugar and 1 large can (12 oz.) of Carnation Condensed milk to a rolling boil for 8 minutes, stirring constantly.  Pour over other ingredients, stir until smooth.  Pour into buttered pan and chill.
