It was the fudge recipe that did it.

I was thinking about making my Grandma ‘Nez’ fudge to give out in small batches to friends and teachers when it hit me. If we ate fudge all year it wouldn’t seem so special, right? In fact, I’m sure I would get tired of it fairly quickly. So in my house I’ve always said “You can only make fudge in December”. That’s what keeps it “fresh”.

I’m finally learning that I need to take a break from time to time, even from things that I love. Why? It makes them fresher, and more fun when I get back to it. It’s good to have something to look forward to, and sometimes taking a break helps you discover something new that you wouldn’t have had time for if you hadn’t taken a break.

This time of year is about endings and I am going to embrace that. I’m going to try to be in the moment with my friends and family and really savor it. I’m going to leave a little time open to do “nothing”, which will lead to discovering something new and interesting. I just know it. Endings always lead to beginnings – this is an unchanging truth.

This is the last post for 2010 here at Fresh by Northwest. We’ll come roaring back in January, inspired and excited to share more discoveries with you. Peace to you and your families in this holiday season.
