We Call It “The Infusion”
I’m not sure it exactly fits the definition of an infusion, but that is what my family calls the homemade drink we make to relieve cold and flu symptoms. When you read the ingredients it probably won’t sound good to you, however, when I am sick I actually crave this drink.
Ingredients
Juice of one lemon
2 tbs honey (or to taste)
1 garlic clove, cut into 4 or 5 pieces
1 garlic clove sized piece of ginger, peeled and cut into 4 or 5 pieces
Pinch of cayenne pepper
Combine all the ingredients in a teacup and add hot water. Let is steep until it’s cool enough to drink.
Why this combination of ingredients?
The lemon juice packs a punch of vitamin C; honey gives you a little boost of energy to fuel the fever; garlic is a natural antibiotic; ginger will warm you from the inside out; and the cayenne pepper (also warming) will ease that achy body. This drink will also give you a bit of congestion relief.
Here’s to your health!
