Camellia japonica "Debutante"

Camellia japonica “Debutante”

I’m not a big fan of pink in the garden but in this case I am going to have to make an exception. Have you ever seen a more delicate and fresh pink than this Camellia japonica “Debutante”? I hereby take back all of my mean remarks about Camellia japonica and resolve never to slur her again.

It’s not easy to capture the colors of flowers when photographing them on a rainy grey day. My camera is nothing special and the flash tends to wash out colors sometimes. I try to take most of my photos on sunny days because the sun can make anything look good.

If you live in the Pacific Northwest, however, it doesn’t pay to be waiting for the sun to come out. Sometimes you just have to get out there and do the best you can. And that’s what camellias will do in your garden, every day.
