Happy Thanksgiving!

My phone and inbox come alive this time of year with requests for failure-proof or somehow different recipes for the holidays. If you haven’t done so already, check out our Thanksgiving Recipes page or click here and see if there is something there that you would like to try.

Hints

  1. Remember leftovers. Certainly you want enough turkey to cover weekend football game sandwiches, but don’t stop there. Make enough stock to freeze for soups in January and February. Or if you don’t want to cook over the holiday weekend, freeze the turkey carcass and make stock later.
  2. Did you know that stuffing freezes really well for a couple of months? How about using it with pork roast or chops on a cold February night?
  3. If you are not cooking for Thanksgiving or Christmas but want leftovers, get a smaller turkey or whole chicken and roast it just to freeze and have after a January day on the slopes.
  4. Yesterday I made Cranberry Chutney, 3 quarts of it. Some is for Thanksgiving; the rest is canned for the pantry and to be given away throughout the winter.

Have fun cooking,
Heidi
