An article in the Washington Post last week, “Five Myths About Healthy Eating” debunks commonly held myths about current availability of healthful food in America. Irrespective of validity, unquestioned information repeated over and over and over again can become assumed truth.

If you assume as I did that:

  • People in poor neighborhoods lack access to fresh fruits and vegetables;
  • Advertising forces people to make unhealthy choices;
  • Eating healthy is too expensive;
  • People need more information about what they eat;
  • There are too many fast food restaurants in low-income neighborhoods;
  • I recommend that you read the article. Meanwhile I will go back to the bench and ponder the meaning of ever-increasing obesity in industrialized countries.
