On July 7th, the Columbia City Farmer’s Market, which is part of the Neighborhood Farmer’s Market Alliance, is moving  a short distance from Rainier Ave S. and Rainier Plaza onto S. Edmonds Street.  For those folks who use Light Rail to go to Columbia City this will make the walk from the station much more enticing on Wednesday afternoons!  Columbia City Farmer’s Market operates from 3-7 pm every Wednesday from now until October 20th.

Did you know that there is now a Lake City Farmer’s Market in the Neighborhood Farmer’s Market Alliance?  The Lake City Farmer’s Market is open from 3-7 pm on Thursdays until October 7th.

One of the great things about the Neighborhood Farmer’s Market Alliance is that they are “farmers only” markets.  Shopping at the Farmer’s Market is probably the most direct way you can support our local farmers and producers.  If you really want to know where your food is coming from, and who is growing, producing or making it, then shopping at any market in the Alliance is where you want to be.

A foodie friend of mine was joking about how she would shop at the Farmer’s Market every day if she could, buying what she would cook and eat each day.  This got me to thinking.  I could go to Columbia City on Wednesday, Lake City on Thursday, Phinney on Friday, the University District or Magnolia on Saturday, and West Seattle or Broadway on Sunday.  I think I will try that one week this summer.
