Saturday Morning in the Life of a Foodie
7:30 AM Pike Place Market Flower Festival All Market flower vendors set up their stalls outside the market to celebrate Spring and Mother’s Day. Why didn’t I bring my camera!!!
A quick trip to Pure Food Fish Co. to buy perfect farm raised sturgeon, gorgeous, fat Black Cod and a piece of smoked King Salmon.
8:15 AM Macrina Bakery on 1st avenue for Morning Rolls and breads.
8:25 AM Top Pot on 5th Avenue for arguably the best espresso in Seattle.
8:45 AM University Farmers Market Willie’s Greens had Baby Bok Choy with yellow florets and another Asian spring cabbage with green florets. Also saw lots of Certified Organic vegetable and herb seedlings, spring onions and baby kales.
No Washington or Oregon fresh morels yet…it hasn’t been quite warm enough. Maybe next week.
Be very careful about buying California morels foraged from orchards. Orchard soil is sandy and so are the many of the morels that grow in it. Whatever you do to clean them probably will not get out all of the grit and grit is very unpleasant to eat regardless of the recipe.
Morels are and expensive wonderful culinary treat. Be patient and wait for the local ones.
