Tulips in the Pike Place Market

If you can't make it to the Skagit Valley, head to the Pike Place Market to see the tulips

The Skagit Valley Tulip festival is in full swing and garnering worldwide attention. As a new feature, we will include links to events like this on the left under the Seasonal heading.

If you can’t make it up to the Skagit Valley you can soak in the tulips’ color right here in Seattle now that they invaded the Pike Place Market. On Friday I visited the market looking for flowers for the weekend, specifically tulips.

Starting at the pig, I walked north into the line of covered stalls reviewing the line of tulips that have occupied the flower stalls. Five gallon paint buckets exploding with colorful flowers reminded me of the 4th of July. My preview ended at a stall that smelled great, too, with little bunches of hyacinth for five bucks cut down to the bulb for maximum water absorption and to keep them from falling apart.

I walked back to work with an armful of little color grenades for ten bucks a dozen and two bunches of fragrant hyacinth for back up. Can’t beat that.
